Bank Complaint Unresolved? You Can Approach the RBI Ombudsman

The Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2026, effective from July 1, 2026, provides a cost-free mechanism for complaints involving deficiency in service by covered RBI-regulated entities.

A customer must first complain to the concerned bank, NBFC or other covered entity. If there is no response within 30 days, or if the customer is not satisfied with the response received, the complaint can be escalated under the RBI Ombudsman framework.

For example, if a bank wrongly charges ?5,000 and fails to resolve your complaint within 30 days, you may approach the RBI Ombudsman, subject to scheme conditions.

Who is affected: Customers of covered banks, NBFCs and other RBI-regulated entities.

Action: Keep complaint numbers, correspondence, statements and supporting documents before escalating.
