After filing your Income Tax Return, taxpayers must also complete the verification process.
The Income Tax Department states that an ITR must generally be e-verified, or the signed ITR-V must be submitted, within 30 days from the date of filing.
For example, if you file your return on August 10, the verification should be completed within the next 30 days.
If a return filed within the applicable due date is verified after the 30-day period, the date of verification may be treated as the date of filing, and applicable consequences of late filing can follow.
Taxpayers can e-verify using authorised methods such as Aadhaar OTP or net banking.
Action: Log in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal and check whether any return is showing as “Pending for Verification.”
